Hippo Chick's Grooves: Ram by Paul McCartney
Hey, music lovers! This week on Hippo Chick's Grooves, we're diving into a classic album that's as playful and unpredictable as a hippo on a tightrope (which I will master one day, mark my words!). We're talking about "Ram" by the legendary Paul McCartney. If you haven't heard this album yet, get ready for a wild ride through McCartney's whimsical world, complete with quirky lyrics, catchy melodies, and some animal-inspired tunes that will make you groove.
Released in 1971, "Ram" is McCartney's second solo album, co-created with his wife, Linda. Right from the get-go, the album feels like a joyful romp through a musical zoo. The opening track, "Too Many People," sets the tone with its jangly guitars and upbeat tempo. It's like McCartney is inviting us to join him on an adventure, and who are we to refuse?
One of the standout tracks is "Ram On," a sweet, ukulele-driven tune that’s as charming as a hippo playing the piano (which, incidentally, I do quite well). The song has a laid-back vibe, perfect for a lazy afternoon. And then there's "Heart of the Country," where Paul sings about living the simple life with his animals. You can practically hear the sheep and cows in the background. For a hippo like me, who dreams of open spaces and fresh air (but not tight spaces, please!), it's a dream come true.
"Monkberry Moon Delight" is another gem, a bizarre and delightful concoction of nonsensical lyrics and rollicking piano riffs. It's as if McCartney threw all his musical ideas into a blender and hit "puree." The result is a song that's both bewildering and brilliant. And speaking of animals, the track "3 Legs" is an offbeat bluesy number about a dog with, well, three legs. It's proof that McCartney's imagination knows no bounds.
But let's not forget "The Back Seat of My Car," a grandiose closer that's as epic as a hippo balancing on a tightrope over the Serengeti (one day, folks, one day). The song builds to a soaring crescendo, leaving us on a high note and reminding us why McCartney is a musical genius.
"Ram" is an album that defies categorization, much like a certain hippo who dreams of tightrope walking. It's playful, inventive, and full of heart. So, if you're looking for an album to lift your spirits and make you smile, give "Ram" a listen.
Until next time, keep the music playing and never stop dreaming.
