Hats Off to Hollywood: When Harry Met Sally...

Image
Duke: Well, well, well. Looks like Rex here has dragged me into another one of these so-called “classics.” This time, it’s When Harry Met Sally... , number six on AFI’s top 10 romantic comedies list. I thought I’d seen enough of this kind of mushy nonsense, but no, we’re diving right back into the deep end of the rom-com pool.

Hats Off to Hollywood: Adam's Rib

Duke: Well, folks, this week Rex and I took a gander at another one of those so-called "classic" movies, Adam's Rib . It's number seven on the AFI's top 10 romantic comedies list. It's a film from 1949 starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, two big-shot actors back in the day. Now, I don't know much about romantic comedies, but I do know this: when you mix romance with comedy, you're asking for trouble. And boy did this movie deliver on that front.

Hats Off to Hollywood: Moonstruck

Duke: Alright, folks, we're diving into the world of romance this week with a look at Moonstruck , the 1987 film that somehow landed the number 8 spot on AFI's Top 10 Romantic Comedies list. I have to admit, this one was pretty good for a movie about love, Italian families, and moonlit nights.

Hats Off to Hollywood: Harold and Maude

Rex: "Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." This week, Duke and I watched Harold and Maude , a romantic comedy unlike any other. Ranked #9 on AFI's Top 10 Romantic Comedies list, this 1971 film is a quirky love story between a 20-year-old young man named Harold and a spirited 79-year-old woman named Maude. It's a film that breaks all the conventional rules of romance, and yet, it works like a charm.

Hats Off to Hollywood: Sleepless in Seattle

Duke: Well, I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be sittin' down to watch a romantic comedy, but here we are. This week, we tackled Sleepless in Seattle , number 10 on the American Film Institute's list of top romantic comedies. Now, I'm not one for all this lovey-dovey business, but I reckon I had to give it a shot. And I gotta say, it's got more sap than a maple tree in spring.
