Fuzzy Philosophy: Taming the Temper Tantrum

Dear Cleo,

I’ve been struggling with anger lately. Small things set me off, and I don’t know how to handle it. Do you have any advice on how to stay calm?

Sincerely, Frustrated and Fuming

Dear Frustrated and Fuming,

Oh my fuzzy fur, I understand your problem completely! I once got very angry when my bamboo order was late. Can you imagine a panda without bamboo? It was a bamboo-zle of a situation!

Here’s what I did: First, I tried counting to ten, but I miscounted and ended up at seven-and-a-half, which only confused me more. So instead, I tried counting in panda steps, which is a lot slower and involves a bit of rolling around. I highly recommend this—it’s hard to stay angry when you’re rolling around like a fuzzy doughnut!

Next, I attempted to channel my inner zen by meditating. I sat in the lotus position, but I got hungry and started thinking about lotus roots. So I decided to eat a snack instead. Turns out, eating your favorite food is a great way to calm down. Just make sure it’s not someone else’s snack, or you might have a different kind of problem!

Then, I remembered that exercise can help with anger. I tried running, but I quickly realized pandas aren’t exactly built for speed. So, I took a leisurely stroll instead. I stopped to smell the flowers, which made me sneeze, and that turned into a sneezing fit. By the time I stopped sneezing, I had forgotten why I was angry in the first place!

Lastly, I’ve heard that talking to someone can help. So, I talked to my friend, Jia. Well, I tried. He’s a bit of a chatterbox, and I ended up listening to his stories about the time he tried to catch a butterfly and fell into a pond. His tales were so entertaining, I didn’t have any room left in my fuzzy head for anger!

So, my advice to you is: Try rolling around, have a snack, take a stroll, and talk to a friend. If all else fails, remember that sometimes, it’s okay to feel angry. Just be a fuzzy friend to yourself and let the feeling pass like a sneeze.

Fuzzily yours,

Cleo
