Fuzzy Philosophy: Giving the Perfect Gift

Dear Cleo,

I want to give my friend the perfect gift, but I’m not sure what to get. Any advice?

Confused Gift-Giver

Dear Confused Gift-Giver,

Ah, the quest for the perfect gift! It’s like looking for the fluffiest bamboo in a field of regular bamboo. But don't worry, I'm here to help!

First, consider what your friend loves. Do they have a favorite type of leaf? I once gave my friend Jia a beautifully wrapped bundle of leaves, and he was over the moon! Of course, he is a panda, so if your friend is a panda too, this advice is spot on. If not, maybe think about what they do in their free time.

Does your friend like shiny things? I once found a perfectly round, shiny rock and thought it was the best gift ever. Turns out, it was a doorknob, and the door it belonged to was very unhappy without it. So, make sure your shiny gift is not essential to someone’s home!

How about something practical? A bamboo toothbrush is both useful and shows you care about their dental hygiene. I know my dentist, Dr. Growly, would appreciate that!

Consider making something yourself. I knitted a scarf once, but it turned out to be a very small blanket. Or a very large napkin. Either way, it was cozy and my friend liked it! Even if you’re not an expert knitter, it’s the thought that counts.

If all else fails, you can’t go wrong with a gift card. I’m still not sure how to use mine, but everyone else seems to love them. Just make sure it’s not a card for a service you have to read instructions to use – those are very confusing.

In the end, the perfect gift is something that shows you thought about them. Even if it’s a little off the mark, like the time I gave a friend a book on how to grow bamboo in Antarctica. It’s the thought that counts, and they’ll appreciate the effort you put into it.

Happy gifting!

Fuzzily yours,

Cleo
