Fuzzy Philosophy: Dealing With Jealousy

Dear Cleo,

I've been feeling really jealous lately. My best friend got a promotion at work, and I can't help but feel envious of her success. I know I should be happy for her, but I just can't shake off this feeling. What should I do?

Green with Envy

Dear Green with Envy,

Oh my bamboo, jealousy is a tricky one! I remember the time I was jealous of Jia, my son, for being able to climb trees faster than me. I thought, "Why does he get to be so speedy while I’m stuck on the ground, munching bamboo?" Then it hit me—maybe it’s not about who climbs the fastest, but who eats the most delicious leaves on the way up!

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Find the Best Leaves: Focus on what you’re good at. Maybe you can’t get promoted to "Chief of Bamboo Operations," but you might be the best at organizing the bamboo! Everyone has their own talents, and it's important to appreciate your unique skills.

  2. Share Your Bamboo: Celebrate your friend’s success! When Jia brings down some high-up leaves, I share them with him, and it tastes even better. Congratulate your friend and share in their joy. You might find it makes you feel better, too.

  3. Grow More Bamboo: Work on your own growth. Instead of dwelling on your friend’s promotion, think about what steps you can take to achieve your own success. Water your own bamboo, and it will grow tall and strong!

  4. Bamboo Yoga: Relax and take deep breaths. When I feel all tangled up inside, a bit of stretching and breathing helps me feel more balanced. Try some yoga or meditation to clear your mind and soothe your heart.

Remember, jealousy is just a feeling, like a hiccup or a sneeze. It comes and goes, but it doesn’t define you. You’re a wonderful bamboo-eating, leaf-loving panda in your own right!

Fuzzily yours,

Cleo
