Fuzzy Philosophy: Mourning
Dear Cleo,
I recently lost someone close to me, and I'm struggling with the grieving process. Do you have any advice on how to cope with mourning?
Sincerely,
Heartbroken Hamster
Dear Heartbroken Hamster,
First of all, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a loved one is like misplacing your favorite bamboo stick—utterly devastating and confusing. But fear not, for I have some wisdom to share, even if it might get a bit tangled along the way.
Wear Black…or Anything Really: Mourning often involves wearing black, but I think it's more about expressing yourself. Why limit yourself to black? Wear your brightest colors to celebrate their life! Polka dots, stripes, or even a panda costume—whatever makes you feel connected.
Cry a River…Literally: They say it's okay to cry, and I couldn't agree more. Did you know bamboo loves water? Maybe plant some bamboo and cry on it. Your tears will nourish the plants, symbolizing growth from sadness. Plus, you get a lovely snack later!
Write Letters…to Everyone: Writing letters can be therapeutic. Write to your lost loved one, to yourself, to the mailman. Express all your feelings. I once wrote a letter to bamboo about my frustrations—turned out to be quite cathartic, and the bamboo didn’t judge.
Eat Your Feelings: Food can be comforting. Indulge in your favorite treats. Make a meal that reminds you of your loved one. I recommend bamboo stew—it’s my go-to comfort food. For you, maybe it's something else, like a big bowl of sunflower seeds.
Remember the Good Times…with a Twist: Share stories and memories, but why stop there? Act them out! Create a little play reenacting the happy moments. Invite your friends and family. I once reenacted the time I mistook a rock for bamboo. It was a hit!
Remember, there's no right or wrong way to grieve. It's all about what feels right for you, even if it involves a bit of confusion and creativity.
Fuzzily yours,
Cleo
